About the author, contributor, and editor
John Chase has a BA in art history from UCSC and a master’s in architecture from UCLA. He has worked as a journalist, designer, critic, and Disney Imagineer. At the time of his death in 2010 at age 57, John Chase was the urban designer for the City of West Hollywood. His other books include Everyday Urbanism, Las Vegas: The Success of Excess, Exterior Decoration, and Glitter Stucco & Dumpster Diving: Reflections on Building Production in the Vernacular City.
Daniel Gregory received his doctorate in architectural history from UC, Berkeley. Until recently he was Senior Home Editor for Sunset magazine and is currently the editor of Houseplans.com. The author of numerous articles and essays on architectural subjects, including those on William Wurster and Thomas Church, his latest book is Cliff May and the Modern Ranch House.
Judith Steen holds a master’s degree in librarianship from the University of Portland. She retired from UCSC after a career in academic, public, and research libraries. She has edited numerous books in the fields of history and women’s studies.
